Tips Use tacky glue at tips of clay, toothpicks, wire or eye pins before securing or inserting into clay. Keep all clay in airtight zip lock bag or airtight container so clay does not dry out. Use water to smooth clay before it dries. Use hand lotion (on hands) so clay does not stick to hands. Directions for Sitting (A) and Standing (B) Whimsy Snowman Head – form a 1⅛ inch white ball. Press two “E” beads into upper center of head for the eyes. With pointed tip of clay tool, press three lines above each eye for eyelashes. Nose – form a 3/16 inch orange ball into a rounded cone shape. Using glue secure wide end of nose to front center of head just under the eyes with small end of nose facing to one side. Cheeks - On each side of the face brush on red chalk to form the cheeks. Body – Roll out a white piece of clay, large enough to cover the foam core. Wrap entire foam core with clay evenly from the wide end up to small end making sure there are no air bubbles. Trim any excess at the top and smooth nicely. Insert a ½ inch toothpick into top (small end) of body, leaving ¼ inch extended out. Secure head onto body. Arms – Form two ¾ inch white balls. For standing figure form into egg shape and secure with toothpicks (small ends of each arm) to each side of the upper body (one arm on each side extended outward). For sitting figure form into tapered log shape and secure with toothpicks (small ends of each arm) to side of body (one arm on each side facing wide ends of each arm forward toward the tummy). Legs – Form two ¾ inch white balls. For standing figure form into egg shape and secure with toothpicks small ends of legs to bottom (wide end) of body side by side pressing bottom wide end of legs slightly flat so figure stands upright. For sitting figure form into tapered logs and secure with toothpicks small ends of each leg to each side of lower body extended outward. Scarf – using the clay roller kit, roll out green or true red clay to a ⅛ inch thickness about 5 to 6 inches in length. Using the clay knife, cut out about a ¾ inch width by 5 to 6-inch length strip. Wrap and secure around neck forming scarf. Trim each end of scarf at an angle then cut ½ inch into each ends to make fringes. Heart Button – Form one to two ½ inch hearts ⅛ inch thick using the clay roller kit. Secure with glue to tummy or feet of figure. Press two holes into center of each heart to look like a button. Hat – Form a green or true red 1-inch ball into a cone shape about 2-inch in length. Bend the small end of the cone to one side. Flatten and press in slightly at base of wide end of cone and secure with glue to top of head. Roll out opposite color of cone to a ⅛-inch thickness about 3-inch in length. Cut a ½ inch width by 3-inch length strip and wrap around wide end of cone and secure to head just above the eyes. Press desired design into hat and rim. Form a ⅜ inch white ball and secure to bent tip of hat resting it just above the rim. Trim eye pin as needed and insert into top of hat with glue leaving eyepiece out at the top. Heart cookie – Mix a small amount of flesh clay with white to make a cookie dough color. Using the clay roller kit role out some clay 3/16 inch thick. Cut out a 1-inch length heart. Roll out some white clay into a thin log for the frosting. Design top of cookie with frosting and secure with glue to hand of figure. Finishing Touch – Sprinkle glitter around entire gingerbread ornament and let dry. Directions for Whimsy Snowman Head – Form a 1¼ inch white ball. Insert two “E” beads into upper center of head for eyes. Using the pointed tip of the clay tool press three lines just above each eye for the eyelashes. Nose – Form a 3/16 inch orange ball into a cone shape and secure to front center of face under the eyes. Brush on some red chalk in a circle on each side of the face for the cheeks. Body – Using the clay roller kit, roll out the green clay to a 3/16 inch thickness. Starting at the top (small end) of the foam cone secure the clay over the top and down the sides evenly (leaving the bottom wide end open) to form a body. Trim around the bottom edges and form a nice edge. The flat bottom of the foam core will allow the ornament to stand upright. Roll out some white clay into a 3/16 inch thick log about 7½ inches in length and secure around the base of the dress to form a ruffle edge. (Trim any excess) Button – Form a 1/4 inch white ball into a 7/16 inch slightly flat circle and secure to lower front center of the dress. Press a small ⅛ inch circle into the center of the button and press a design into the button to finish. Arms - Cut two 2½ inch length wires and insert one on each side of the body. Bend the tip of each wire ends for the hands. Bend arms as desired. Hat – Roll out a 5/16 inch thick white log and wrap it around the top of the head just above the eyes. Roll out a red log just a little thinner than the first and wrap it on top of the first log just inside. Continue to form logs alternating the color and shaping the hat upward as desired. Form a ½ inch white ball and secure to top of hat. Insert the eye pin leaving the eyepiece out at the top. Candy Cane – Roll out a 5/16 inch thick by 2 inch length; one red and one white log. Place white and red logs together at one end and gently twist the two logs together. Bend one end to form the candy cane and trim any excess clay. Finishing Touch – Sprinkle glitter around entire gingerbread ornament and let dry.
